The more coherent a PM's strategy towards tackling global poverty, the less people
are likely to risk life and limb to come to the UK.Unless the Tories understand that
poverty is the root cause of the majority of the immigration in this country any draconian policy to stamp out illegal immigration is likely to fail.Given that Maastricht allows for free movement of labour within the EU,this legal type of immigration is not up for discussion.Cameron's first error was to applaud Blair
on his efforts in Africa! In fact Blair achieved very little in terms of the reduction in Global Poverty. In excess of 2 million people died in the 3rd world under Blair's watch. This is made all the worse by the fact that it happened at a time when the UK had maximium influence over US policy.Cameron's failure to understand
Africa and his tokenism on the issue of Poverty was exposed embarassingly yesterday.
A Rwandan journalist asked him what he was doing there when parts of his own constituency was facing a flood crisis.Brown on the other hand has attended fringe
meetings over the last ten years much to the surprise of some activists. He has pedigree on this matter and more crucially has made it one of the top priorities of his government. He is more likely to deliver on this issue which is of both moral and political concern, hence we are less likely to see the more desperate types of immigration that marked the Blair Years.
